Area Info
Elkhart County was one of the first areas settled in Northern Indiana, and it was organized by an act of the Legislature in 1830. A little town called Dunlap was originally selected as the county seat, but after some political wrangling, Goshen was designated the county seat in 1831. Our history lives today in the achievements of those who paved the trails, plowed the lands and built and cities and towns before us.
